Marram Grass Transplanting at Carrickfinn Beach

A Marram Grass Transplanting workshop will take place at Carrickfinn Beach, Co. Donegal on Friday 24 February 2017.  This workshop is being hosted by Donegal County Council in conjunction with An Taisce’s Blue Flag Initiative.

Marram Grass, Ammophila arenaria, is the major dune building plant in Ireland. This sand trapping grass can not only help dune systems maintain their positions but reduce blowouts and consolidate areas of loose sands.

This practical training workshop will develop skills around; when and how to transplant, sources of supply, correct technique and spacing considerations. As part of the workshop a section of the Carrickfinn dunes which have suffered blow-out will be replanted.
